Refrigerator and ice maker error codes
What the most common refrigerator and ice maker codes mean, and the parts that usually cause them.
Samsung
What does OF OF mean on my Samsung fridge?
OF OF (or O FF) isn't a fault: the fridge is in Cooling Off mode, the display mode used in stores, so the lights work but nothing cools. To turn it off, press and hold the two buttons your model's manual lists for Cooling Off (often Energy Saver and Fridge, or Freezer and Lighting) for a few seconds until it beeps.
What does 21E mean on my Samsung fridge?
21E (21C on some models) is a freezer fan error. The usual causes are ice built up around the fan from a defrost problem, a freezer fan motor that has failed, or its wiring.
What does 22E mean on my Samsung fridge?
22E (22C on some models) is a fridge fan error. It often follows a door left open long enough for the fan to ice over. The usual causes are ice on the fan from a defrost problem, a failed fridge fan motor, or its wiring.
What does 39E mean on my Samsung fridge?
39E (39C on some models) means the ice maker didn't complete its cycle. The usual causes are ice jammed in the ice maker, a failed ice maker assembly, or a frozen fill tube.
What does 33E mean on my Samsung fridge?
33E is an ice pipe heater error: the heater that stops the fill tube freezing has failed or lost its connection. The usual result is a frozen fill tube and no ice.
What does 83E or 84C mean on my Samsung fridge?
83E and 84C are compressor errors: the compressor isn't starting or running properly. The usual causes are the inverter compressor control board, the compressor itself, or its wiring.
What does 88 88 mean on my Samsung fridge?
88 88 flashes for a few seconds after power is restored; that's normal. If it stays on, the usual causes are a voltage problem at the outlet, a communication fault between the display and the main board, or a failed main control board.
LG
What does Er FF mean on my LG fridge?
Er FF is a freezer fan error. The usual causes are ice around the freezer fan from a defrost problem, a failed freezer fan motor, or its wiring.
What does Er rF mean on my LG fridge?
Er rF is a fridge fan error. The usual causes are ice blocking the fan, a failed fridge fan motor, or its wiring.
What does Er CF mean on my LG fridge?
Er CF is a condenser fan error: the fan at the back near the compressor isn't turning. The usual causes are a failed condenser fan motor, dust or debris blocking it, or its wiring.
What does Er dH mean on my LG fridge?
Er dH is a defrost error: the freezer coils aren't defrosting. The usual causes are a failed defrost heater, a blown defrost fuse, or a frozen drain. A failed main board can cause it too.
What does Er dS mean on my LG fridge?
Er dS is a defrost sensor error. The usual causes are a failed defrost sensor, its wiring, or the main board.
What does Er IF mean on my LG fridge?
Er IF is an ice fan error: the fan that cools the ice maker in the door isn't turning. The usual causes are ice blocking the fan, a failed ice fan motor, or its wiring.
What does Er gF mean on my LG fridge?
Er gF is a water flow sensor error: water isn't flowing to the dispenser or ice maker as expected. The usual causes are a closed or kinked water line, a failed flow sensor, or a failed water inlet valve.
Frigidaire
What does SB mean on my Frigidaire fridge?
SB isn't a fault: Sabbath mode is on, so the lights, dispenser and alarms are off. To turn it off, press and hold the button or pair of buttons your model's manual lists for Sabbath mode for about 5 seconds.
What does H or HI mean on my Frigidaire fridge?
H or HI is a high-temperature alarm: it's too warm inside. If the doors were closed, the usual causes are a worn door gasket, a fan or defrost problem, or a cooling system fault.
What does dI SP mean on my Frigidaire fridge?
dI SP means the ice dispenser is jammed. The usual causes are ice cubes fused together in the bin or chute, a failed auger motor, or a dispenser door that won't open.
Whirlpool, Maytag and KitchenAid
What does PO mean on my Whirlpool or Maytag fridge?
PO means the power was out long enough for the fridge to warm up. Press any button to clear it, and check the food. If it shows without a power cut, the usual causes are a loose plug, a failing outlet, or the control board.
