Oven and stove error codes

What the most common oven and range codes mean, and the parts that usually cause them.

Whirlpool, Maytag and KitchenAid

What does F9 mean on my Whirlpool oven?

F9 (often shown as F9 E0) usually appears after a power outage or on a new installation. It means the control sensed a wiring or voltage problem. The usual causes are electrical noise during an outage, an outlet or junction box wired with the wires reversed, or a failed control board.

What does F3 mean on my Whirlpool oven?

F3 codes (such as F3 E0 or F3 E1) point to the oven temperature sensor. The usual causes are a failed sensor, a loose sensor connection at the back of the oven, or the control board.

What does SAb mean on my Whirlpool oven?

SAb isn't a fault: Sabbath mode is on, so most buttons don't respond. To turn it off, press and hold the button your model's manual lists for Sabbath mode for about 5 seconds.

What does LOC mean on my Whirlpool oven?

LOC means the control lock is on. Press and hold the Control Lock button (often Cancel or Start, marked with a lock symbol) for about 3 seconds to unlock. If the door stays locked after self-clean, the usual cause is the door lock motor or switch.

What does PF mean on my oven?

PF means the power was interrupted. Reset the clock to clear it. If it keeps coming back without a power cut, the usual causes are a loose connection at the terminal block, a failing breaker, or the control board.

GE

What does F2 mean on my GE oven?

F2 means the oven got hotter than it should. The usual causes are a failed oven temperature sensor, a relay on the control board stuck on, or the control board itself.

What does F3 mean on my GE oven?

F3 (or F4) means the oven temperature sensor reads open or shorted. The usual causes are the sensor itself, its wiring, or the connection at the back of the oven.

What does F7 mean on my GE oven?

F7 (also F1 or F0 on some models) points to the keypad (touchpad): a button reads as stuck. The usual causes are a failed keypad, moisture behind it, or the ribbon cable to the control board.

What does F9 mean on my GE oven?

On GE ovens, F9 points to the door lock circuit. The usual causes are a failed door lock motor, its switch, or the wiring to the control board.

Why does my GE oven say LOC DOOR?

LOC or LOC DOOR flashing usually means the Control Lockout is on. Press and hold Lock Controls for about 3 seconds. If it flashes without being set, the usual causes are a door that isn't closing freely, the door lock switch, or the control board.

Frigidaire

What does F10 mean on my Frigidaire oven?

F10 means the oven got too hot (runaway temperature). The usual causes are a failed oven temperature sensor, a relay on the control board stuck on, or the control board itself.

What does F11 mean on my Frigidaire oven?

F11 means a button on the keypad reads as stuck (shorted key). The usual causes are a failed keypad, moisture or grease behind it, or the ribbon cable to the control board.

What does F30 or F31 mean on my Frigidaire oven?

F30 means the oven temperature sensor circuit is open; F31 means it's shorted. The usual causes are the sensor itself, its connector at the back of the oven, or the wiring.

What does F90 mean on my Frigidaire oven?

F90 to F94 are door lock errors, usually after self-clean. The usual causes are a failed door lock motor, its lock switch, or the wiring.

Samsung

What does C-20 or C-21 mean on my Samsung oven?

C-20 means the oven temperature sensor is open or shorted. C-21 means the inside got abnormally hot. The usual causes are a failed sensor, a stuck relay on the control board, or a failed cooling fan.

What does C-d1 mean on my Samsung oven?

C-d1 means the door lock isn't in the right position. The usual causes are a failed door lock motor or switch, something blocking the latch, or the wiring.

What does C-d0 mean on my Samsung oven?

C-d0 means a button reads as pressed for too long, often from moisture or grease on the panel. If wiping it dry doesn't clear it, the usual causes are a failed touch panel or its control board.
