Dryer error codes

What the most-searched dryer codes mean, and the parts that usually cause them.

Samsung

What does HC mean on my Samsung dryer?

hC means the dryer is getting too hot. The usual causes are a lint-clogged or crushed vent, a failed thermistor (temperature sensor), or a heater relay that stays on.

What does HE mean on my Samsung dryer?

hE means a heating error: the dryer isn't heating the way it should. On electric dryers, the usual causes are a failed heating element, a blown thermal fuse, or a thermistor. On gas dryers, it's usually the igniter or the gas valve coils.

What does 9C1 mean on my Samsung dryer?

9C1 means the power reaching the dryer is outside its normal range. The usual causes are a loose plug or worn outlet, a breaker supplying only half of the 240 volts, or a failing control board.

What does dO mean on my Samsung dryer?

dO (d0 on some models) is a door error: the dryer doesn't see the door as closed. The usual causes are a failed door switch, a broken door latch or strike, or the wiring.

What does tS or tO mean on my Samsung dryer?

tS, tO and t5 are temperature sensor (thermistor) errors. The usual causes are a failed thermistor, its wiring, or a lint-clogged vent that makes it overheat.

LG

What does CL mean on my LG dryer?

CL isn't a fault: Child Lock is on. Press and hold the Child Lock button (marked with a lock symbol) for about 3 seconds to turn it off.

What does d80, d90 or d95 mean on my LG dryer?

These codes mean the vent is blocked: about 80, 90 or 95 out of 100 parts of the airflow are restricted. The usual causes are lint built up in the vent duct, a crushed or kinked duct behind the dryer, or a stuck outside vent flap.

What does tE mean on my LG dryer?

tE (tE1, tE2, tE3) means a temperature sensor error. The usual causes are a failed thermistor, its wiring, or the control board.

What does nP mean on my LG dryer?

nP means no power is reaching the heater on an electric dryer. The usual causes are a breaker supplying only half of the 240 volts, a loose power cord connection, or a failed heater relay on the control board.

What does HS mean on my LG dryer?

HS is a humidity (moisture) sensor error, often with very long drying times. The usual causes are dirty or failed moisture sensor bars in the drum, their wiring, or the control board.

Whirlpool and Maytag

What does AF mean on my Maytag dryer?

AF means restricted airflow; some Whirlpool models show a Check Vent light instead. The usual causes are lint in the vent duct, a crushed or kinked duct, or a clogged blower wheel.

What does PF mean on my Maytag dryer?

PF means the power was interrupted during the cycle. Press Start to continue. If it comes back without a power cut, the usual causes are a loose power cord connection, a failing outlet, or the control board.

What does L2 mean on my Whirlpool dryer?

L2 means low line voltage: the dryer runs but won't heat. The usual causes are a tripped half of the double breaker or a blown fuse, a loose power cord at the terminal block, or a failed control board.

What does F01 mean on my Whirlpool dryer?

F01 means a control board fault. The usual causes are a failed main control board, a loose wiring connection to it, or a power surge.

What does F3 mean on my Whirlpool dryer?

F3 codes (such as F3 E1) point to a temperature sensor (thermistor). The usual causes are a failed exhaust or inlet thermistor, its wiring, or the control board.
